That’s a Wrap: Everything That Went Down at TakeControl 2021

After months and months of hard work, the week of September 13, 2021 proved to be one of the most momentous weeks in FloQast’s history.

To kick off our second-ever virtual conference, Co-founder and CEO Mike Whitmire revealed to the world FloQast’s latest product, something we’ve been working on for quite some time. Co-innovated with over 200 FloQast users, FloQast Ops is a workflow manager that extends the power of FloQast Close to centralize upstream financial functions like Accounts Payable, Sales and Use Tax, and Accounts Receivable along with downstream functions like Compliance, Reporting, and FP&A to deliver greater control and transparency across accounting operations.

But that was just the beginning.

What followed was two days worth of content diving deep into the future of the accounting profession, changes experts have seen over the last 18 months and how they met them, and ways in which all-star FloQast users use the product to achieve accounting operation excellence.

In addition to product news and best practices, this year’s premier sponsor, Oracle NetSuite, along with sponsors Tipalti and CrossCountry Consulting, also hosted sessions with real FloQast users and subject matter experts alike.

For the first time ever, TakeControl featured entertainment on both days, and boy was I entertained. On day one, everyone’s favorite bipedal urban legend, Saxsquatch, serenaded us with some crunchy grooves from his remarkably well-equipped lair somewhere in the forested confines of — checks notes — North America (maybe). On day two, FloQast Co-founder Chris Sluty co-hosted a cooking class with world-class chef and restaurateur Guy Fieri — yes, you read that correctly — that was so entertaining, I watched even though I wasn’t participating.

Things finished up on September 15 with an award show hosted by accounting legend Pete Olinto, where winners were recognized for best overall operational excellence, seamless implementations, and the most outstanding office of the CFO. Here are the winners:

  • Operational Excellence Award: Lance Weber, Segment Controller, Maxar
  • Implementation Award: Michelle Wright (Controller) and Steph Tuba (Accountant), Workforce Software
  • Office of the CFO Innovation Award: Joseph Silva, CPA (Assistant Controller), David Amaya (Accounts Payable Analyst), Melad Zahedi (Corporate Accountant), John Lee, CPA (Corporate Accounting Lead), Michelle Brown (Corporate Accountant), and Eric Ha (Accounts Payable Supervisor), all from Blend.

Speaking of his experience with FloQast, Lance was explicit about how much an impact it has made on his team.

“We’ve replaced emails, manual spreadsheets, and disaggregation across all of our business units with a unified stabilized approach to everything, which gives us the opportunity as the accounting function to really partner with the business, from finance to operations thanks to FloQast,” he said.

While we look forward to a bigger and better TakeControl 2022, you can glean all of the wisdom shared this year by watching TakeControl on demand. Be sure to check out the discussions and let us know which one resonates with you.
