Shaping Future Engineers: Inside FloQast’s Summer Internship Program

Internships are a critical bridge between academia and the professional world. They are often among the best opportunities to gain key experience in top skills employers seek in a new hire before graduation. That also means that it’s imperative we get our internship program right—not only for the sake of the latest generation of software engineers but for the future of innovative software development. FloQast is starting the hiring process for its second cohort of summer software engineering interns.

Last year, when we launched the program, we recognized that developing problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills early on could lead to faster personal growth and product innovation. By fostering these key aptitudes, we could reduce onboarding time and empower our engineers to contribute more rapidly to the product. From the beginning, we knew that providing students with a comprehensive, hands-on view of the industry was critical, preparing them to tackle real-world engineering challenges from day one. For us, that meant defining three principles that would drive how we developed the program to invest in the best talent, amplify learning opportunities, and let interns get their hands dirty.

Talent Lives Coast to Coast

Talent knows no geographic boundaries, and neither should our approach to finding it. As a fully remote organization, we knew we had to provide opportunities to interns nationwide, remove relocation barriers and ensure students from diverse backgrounds could gain hands-on industry experience without needing to be in the Los Angeles area. To further expand our reach, we actively partner with universities like Virginia Tech, Auburn University, and Georgia Institute of Technology, tapping into a wide range of perspectives and skill sets that strengthen our engineering organization.

These partnerships go beyond recruitment—they’re an investment in the future of engineering, allowing us to build relationships with top talent and create a more inclusive, innovative workforce.

Immersion Drives Experience

At FloQast, we’ve always believed the best way to learn is by doing. That’s why our interns couldn’t be just observers—they’re fully integrated into our engineering organization through focused teams (or pods) of five to eight full-time engineers. There’s no busywork or throwaway projects here—interns work on real features, contributing directly to products that ship to customers.

Beyond coding, our interns collaborate with product managers, designers, quality engineers, and members of other pods regularly, gaining firsthand experience in how cross-functional teams bring ideas to life. They participate in design discussions, provide input on usability, and ensure high-quality releases alongside their teammates. This exposure gives them a well-rounded understanding of the entire development process, from concept to production. By embedding interns into real teams and projects, we ensure they leave with the technical skills, self-assurance, and collaboration experience needed to thrive as engineers.

Mentorship Fuels Growth

A great internship isn’t just about exposure to code—it’s about mentorship, guidance, and professional development. We wanted to ensure that every intern had everything they needed to succeed by providing multiple layers of support. Throughout the summer, interns have weekly 1:1 syncs with their managers, where they discuss their progress, receive immediate feedback, and get guidance on navigating the program and their future careers.

In addition to their manager, each intern pairs with a dedicated “Buddy”—an engineer on their pod who works with them on problems, discusses solutions, and shares insights from their industry experience. This hands-on mentorship helps interns build confidence, sharpen their problem-solving skills, and gain practical knowledge beyond what they learn in school.

We invest in these relationships not only because they align with our philosophy of continuous growth and development but also because they help prepare interns for potential full-time roles at FloQast after graduation. By fostering meaningful connections and providing structured support, we ensure our interns end their internship with the skills and experience needed to take the next step in their careers.

Engineering the Future

Our Summer Internship Program is more than just an introduction to the industry—it’s a robust investment in the future of engineering. By immersing interns in hands-on projects within pods, expanding our talent search nationwide, and providing meaningful mentorship, we’re not just shaping the next generation of engineers but building a stronger, more innovative organization for the long term.

If you’re passionate about engineering and eager to make a real impact, we want to hear from you! Join us in a program that doesn’t just prioritize learning—it fosters collaboration, nurtures growth, and prepares you to shape the future of technology.
