FloQast Celebrates Its First-Ever User Conference in San Francisco

On May 16, FloQast celebrated a moment six years in the making at a brewery in the heart of San Francisco.

With over 100 users in attendance, FloQasters from every department were on hand to present valuable tips and tricks for getting the most out of FloQast’s close management software, as well as a glimpse into the future of accounting, which FloQast is helping to shape.

“TakeControl was designed to bring together forward-thinking finance and accounting teams to exchange ideas and learn from one another,” said Mike Whitmire, co-founder and CEO of FloQast. “Whenever you bring smart, driven people under one roof, magical things occur and that is exactly what we saw last week. We witnessed the next generation of financial and accounting professionals who are driving change across their organizations to not just make them more efficient, but more strategic and valuable to their businesses overall.”

Following the day’s sessions, FloQast announced the winners of the first-ever Month-End Masters Awards, honoring finance and accounting professionals for their leadership, creativity, and ability to drive productivity across their organizations:

Meet our Month-End Masters

Innovator of the Year: Jon Hardy, Accounting Manager, Viewpoint

For his tremendous work at Viewpoint — and with parent company Trimble Technologies, we named Jon Hardy our Innovator of the Year. Jon is responsible for improving critical financial processes and greatly boosting business outcomes using close management software.

Accounting Leader of the Year: Derek Mernagh, Corporate Controller, Yelp

A veteran of KPMG and Google, Derek Mernagh joined Yelp’s Dublin office in 2013 before relocating to San Francisco and rising rapidly through the accounting team’s ranks to Corporate Controller at Yelp. We named Derek our Accounting Leader of the Year for having deployed technology to positively impact the business. This included tracking SOX controls and SEC reporting requirements, utilizing FloQast in unique ways to accomplish both in an effective and efficient manner.

Rookie of the Year: Shanna Wheeler, CPA, Controller, RedBuilt

Hailing from Boise, Idaho, RedBuilt Controller Shanna Wheeler, CPA, was named Rookie of the Year for the rapid change she was able to drive after deploying FloQast to help manage the company’s month-end close.

The ceremony was followed by a happy hour where attendees celebrated the day’s activities with drinks and food, a virtual reality gaming experience, and a caricature artist. A big thank you to all who were able to attend! We’re looking forward to doing it all over again on September 19 in Austin. We hope to see you then!
